Welcome to the Association for Democratic Initiatives (ADI), a multiethnic non-governmental organization in special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations.

Never doubt that a group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. — Margaret Mead

Established in Gostivar Macedonia in 1994, ADI implements human rights and civil society projects that promote democracy and support peace and stability in Macedonia and Southeast Europe. Our activities focus on advocacy, education and public participation with assistance from our national, regional and international network of volunteers and partner organizations. To date, ADI has implemented hundreds of projects throughout Macedonia and has begun doing the same in neighboring countries. To better reach our objectives ADI has established offices in Kosova (Prishtina), Albania (Tirana), Bosnia & Herzegovina (Sarajevo) and the USA (New York).

In addition, ADI is a founding member of the Steering Committee of the Balkan Human Rights Network (BHRN), founding member and member of the Board of Directors of the South East European Refugee Assistance Network (SEE-RAN), member of the European Committee on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE), member of the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA), member of CIVITAS International and has been elected Sub-regional Coordinator of the UN-NGO Informal Regional Network / Eastern Europe.

ADI is legally registered in the Republic of Macedonia and is designated as a non-governmental organization authorized to conduct civic initiatives. It is governed by a 9-member board of directors and an advisory board.
