Established in Gostivar Macedonia in 1994, ADI implements human rights and civil society projects that promote democracy and support peace and stability in Macedonia and Southeast Europe. Our activities focus on advocacy, education and public participation with assistance from our national, regional and international network of volunteers and partner organizations. To date, ADI has implemented hundreds of projects throughout Macedonia and has begun doing the same in neighboring countries. To better reach our objectives ADI has established offices in Kosova (Prishtina), Albania (Tirana), Bosnia & Herzegovina (Sarajevo) and the USA (New York).

In addition, ADI is a founding member of the Steering Committee of the Balkan Human Rights Network (BHRN), founding member and member of the Board of Directors of the South East European Refugee Assistance Network (SEE-RAN), member of the European Committee on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE), member of the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA), member of CIVITAS International and has been elected Sub-regional Coordinator of the UN-NGO Informal Regional Network / Eastern Europe.

ADI is legally registered in the Republic of Macedonia and is designated as a non-governmental organization authorized to conduct civic initiatives. It is governed by a 9-member board o directors and an advisory board.

CREARTING EUROPE 2009

The Association for Democratic Initiatives, in cooperation with its partners, will organize a summer camp in Italy, near Bologna at Monte Sole Peace School (please check the website http://www.montesole.org/progetto_en.html)

Project CreARTing common Europe will bring together 40 secondary school studets from Italy, Macedonia, Slovenia and Serbia on 7 days youth exchange on intercultural dialogue.

The camp will take place at the historic park during the period July 3 -11, 2009.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore different cultures and traditions and discuss the meaning of European values as their common identity. This exchange will encourage participants to express their visions of diversity in a creative way - by making, for example, first European diversity postcards.

Host to this youth exchange will be Italy, as it is one of few countries that has a tradition in EU from its foundation. This exchange deals with European issues by integrating participants that are more (Italy) or less (Slovenia) familiar with EU and participants with lack of understanding of European processes.

This project is initial step-by-step transformation of youth values. The structure of the agenda is designed of 4 modules in order to promote intercultural dialogue as one of the Europes main value:
1) European values and identity
2) intercultural dialogue
3) theatre techiques in youth work and
4) memory as a tool for active citizenship. Postcards on European diversity will be presented to public in local theatre on the last day with main idea- to present the meaning of diversity dialogue.

 

Application Requirements:

  1. Secondary school students are encouraged to submit their applications.

  2. Eligible candidates must be Macedonian citizenships

  3. The number of participants is limited to 10 participants from Macedonia.

  4. The age limit of candidates is 16-19 years.

  5. Since the language of the School is English, applicants should demonstrate good knowledge of English and be able to follow lectures and participate actively in discussions.

  6. The Association for Democratic Initiatives will ensure equal gender representation of participants.

 

Deadline for application is May 15, 2009

Costs:
The Association for Democratic Initiatives will cover costs of transportation, visa, meals and accommodation.
