Project: Civil Society in Action: Partnerships for Positive Social Change

Implementation Period: March 2006 – February 2008

Location: Northwest region of Macedonia (Gostivar, Tetovo, Debar and Kicevo)

Target Group: NGOs, citizens/informal citizen groups

Description of the Project:
This project aims to address concerns by the citizenry that NGOs, governments, and the private sector are corrupt and self-interested. What this project does is gives educational enhancement and mentorship to citizens from various sectors of society, to pursue concrete policy actions with other stakeholders in their communities to hold individuals and organizations accountable for the consequences of their actions. By implementing this project, ADI will raise awareness about the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders in society, strengthen civil society and encourage new partnerships for social change in the Northwest region of Macedonia. This project also has a component, which allows civil society actors to pursue local policy initiatives through small grants.

Project: Regional Integration through Volunteer Exchanges for Reconciliation of South Eastern Europe (RIVER SEE)

Implementation Period: 2005 – 2007

Location: Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosova, Macedonia, Serbia & Montenegro.

Target Group: CSOs, potential volunteers, local-government officials, youth

Description of the Project: Its objective is to contribute to regional integration, social cohesion and poverty reduction in the SEE by strengthening networks through East-to-East volunteer exchanges, promoting volunteerism and proactive citizenship, building the capacity of civil society to deal with local development and governance processes, and establishing regional cooperation between civil initiatives. Legislative frameworks on volunteerism in the region will be promoted in order to secure a supportive environment thus engaging local, regional, and national governments towards a vibrant volunteer sector.
